Transmitter Update: It’s Arrived!

It’s been a little while since we’ve been able to share news about our upcoming transmitter upgrade, but this latest one’s a big one: Our new transmitter arrived at our broadcast site on Boulder’s Marshall Mesa today!

If you’re not up to speed, we’ve been working to replace our transmitter since it was damaged in a lightning strike fire last year and we had to switch to our lower power backup transmitter until it could be replaced. Earlier in the summer, our custom-made Nautel NX10 was approved at their factory in Bangor, ME, and we had it shipped back to us in Colorado. Fast-forward a bit, and today we were able to take delivery and install it in our broadcast “shack” just a few miles south of central Boulder in Marshall!

We’ve still got some steps to take before we can bring it online and bring us back to full-power AM broadcast (including improving the lightning protection system so our new baby is safe!), so keep an eye on our blog and our Instagram page for updates … but in the meantime, enjoy some photos from today’s installation adventure courtesy of our intrepid chief engineer, Eric Scace.

Yours in hoping never to be struck by lightning again,
Iris Berkeley
