Wow, y’all. It seems like only yesterday that we were unpacking all the boxes from our big move to Carlson Gymnasium and rushing around to start up spring semester programming. And then before we really knew it, Wattage Week came around on the calendar — our once-a-semester gentle plea to you, the listener, to help us bring you hand-picked, AI-free, lovingly curated college radio. We know it was a little bit of a crazy whirl. And we’re so grateful so many of you showed up for us with the calls, the comments, and the donations! The theme this Wattage Week was “Love is on the Air” in honor of Valentine’s Day, and, well, it really was. Thank you so much.
If you’re one of the lovers who donated during Wattage Week, your limited-edition bandana and waterproof sticker will be on its way to you in the mail this week. If you didn’t get a chance to give during Wattage Week, it’s not too late! Donations are always welcome over at 1190.radio/donate all year long.
Everything received during this Wattage Week goes directly toward that final wish list from our move to Carlson last month — things like buying more beanbag chairs so people can get cozy during volunteer meetings, repairing a gorgeous old cassette deck we found in storage so we can play tapes on the radio, to replacing our on-air lights outside the studios (so I don’t keep accidentally walking in on people’s shows when they’re on mic).
So if you’ve already given, once again, THANK YOU! And if you haven’t yet, now’s the time. But we can let the voices of our Wattage Week donors say it even better than we can — here are a few comments from this past week:
- Thanks to the students, staff, and volunteers who make Radio 1190 so cool!
- We love that our daughter gets the opportunity to learn radio!
- Thanks for all you do! Radio 1190 forever!!!
- I love the variety, keep those tunes coming!
- The new Radio 1190 location is fantastic! Keep up the great work!
- More than 20 years in love with Radio 1190!
- We are proud KVCU watt owners since 1999. You’ve turned us on to so much great music! Thank you!
Thanks so much for loving the station that loves you back. We’re so appreciative, we made you a mixtape. And 88 student radio shows. And all this great student journalism every weekday at 11. And … well, you get the idea.

Iris Berkeley, general manager
