Something a bit sentimental for you all

Hi guys! I’m graduating college next week so heres something about my time here:

It had to have been the first week or two of class my freshman year that I came down to the radio station, and since walking into that wonderfully dusty basement for the first time my life has, and I mean this wholeheartedly, never been the same. There’s something about Radio 1190 that shapes you if you’ve been there long enough, the wonderful people you find down there, the often odd music you hear, and the feeling that you really are doing something special on a campus that so often feels the opposite. And I promise this isn’t a “wow he peaked in college” thing, this place truly means something. The movie nights soundtracked by countless friends that introduced me to some of the most formative movies I have ever seen, parties full of people so desperate to discuss theoretical politics or Alex G’s new musical direction, haunted houses that necessitated filling the basement with fog and trash bags, and being trained after hours to a job so cool I still can’t believe I was paid for it, we were honest to god just doing our own thing. It’s probably corny to say but my taste in almost everything was in some way shaped by my 4 years in this place, the phrases I say without thinking have been passed down to me from people long graduated, and I will likely never forget the feeling of walking down into that old CD room to eat UMC fries and chili with some of the most lovely people I have ever met. Also— remember the Wide Orbit beep? I think I can still hear it if I close my eyes and imagine really hard. Around 96 Mixtape/Street Teams later, a whole lotta songs added to automation, and two wonderful people taking me and Gavin’s place, I’m saying farewell!

To close, please cherish these people and this place. It will leave far more of an impact on you than you could ever expect. Thank you to everyone I’ve had the honor of meeting here and Radio 1190 forever.
