MUSIC FOR YOUR WEARY OCTOBER EARS

Algernon Cadwallader – Trying Not To Have a Thought

“Classic style emo with whiny lyrics and plenty of guitar tapping. Often has political/social messages that are very powerful; also has a lot of very angsty teen-type lyrics.

Perfect music for skating at sunset.” – Michael

Greg Freeman – Burnover

“I must admit that alt-country isn’t the type of music I usually listen to; but I was pleasantly surprised with Greg Freeman. The vocals are whiny and shrill, but the instrumentals have incredible depth and variation, and the lyrics are beautifully poetic. You can hear guitar of electric, acoustic, and bass variety, harmonica, banjo, jazzy horns, classical piano, and much more blended together in loose jams that dive into cinematic buildups. There aren’t choruses in Freeman’s songs so much as streams of musical emotion with a catchy, MJ Lenderman-esque twist.” – Eon

Joanne Robertson – Blurrr

“Very low-key indie album; almost feels like happy slowcore. Nice reverb-rich vocals paired with acoustic guitar. This music feels like a sunrise after a tough week.” – Michael

Wednesday – Bleeds

“Incredibly surreal and incredibly human, like looking through an old scrapbook. Hartzman’s voice (both in sound and lyricism) is one to be reckoned with, especially alongside such powerful indie sludge instrumentals.” – Eliette

she’s green – Chrysalis

“Amazing new ethereal pop band, a misty mossy sound and I totally can’t wait to see what else they make, considering how good this first EP is. I’m in love with the music and also everyone in this band.” – Rebecca

sunking – I DONT LIKE MY TELEPHONE

“A jazz fusion album that really takes the “fusion” part seriously. There’re influences from hip-hop, vaporwave, and even Japanese city pop present in this project. While it can get chaotic at times, sunking is good at keeping it a controlled chaos, making for a relaxing listening experience. Overall, “I DON’T LIKE MY TELEPHONE” is a fantastic little project that is much less intimidating than the all-caps titles might lead you to believe.”  – Cooper

Platonic Sex – Face to the Flywire

“My friend Hayley said the album feels very Metric-coded, and honestly, that’s a perfect description. The production has this cool, sharp edge to it that gives the whole thing a chilly, almost atmospheric vibe. I really enjoyed listening all the way through it feels fresh but also familiar in a way that sticks.

I’d love to see this band blow up, because there’s so much potential in their sound. You can hear hints of different influences woven in, but they make it their own. At times, it even reminds me of Mannequin P with the way they layer melodies and keep the energy balanced. If they keep pushing in this direction, I think they could find a really big audience.” – Bella

Sons of Sevilla – Street Light Moon

“This album is ideal to relax to. It blends modern indie pop with 70’s psychedelia for a unique retro-futurist vibe. Vintage keyboards, beachy guitar, groovy bass, vibraphones, and a flute create a hazy, tropical sound that floats like lava in a lava lamp. It makes me feel like I’m driving a convertible down the streets of Seville, passing palm trees and clear blue water (which was definitely the intent, considering the English brothers moved to Seville to inspire their music).” – Eon

Hunx and His Punx – Walk Out on this World

“Up-tempo light rock. Some songs have a 60s/70s vibe. Hard not to dance to most songs.” – Melissa
