CU Boulder’s Buffaloes ride into their regular season finale looking to cap their best season in 8 years with a victory over the Oklahoma State University Cowboys. Coach Deion Sanders has Colorado bowl eligible (and with a bit of luck potentially playoff eligible) in the second season of his tenure, while Cowboys coach Mike Gundy has OSU facing its worst season of his entire 20 year tenure, sitting dead last in the new-look Big 12 conference. The #23 ranked Buffs aim to avoid the upset at Folsom today coming off of a heartbreaking loss against the Kansas Jayhawks last week.

[Q1 14:00] Oklahoma State was halted by a sack by defensive end Walker Arden. 0-0

[Q1 13:15] Interception by corner back Travis Hunter puts CU on the 24-yard line. 0-0

[Q1 12:03 ] First touchdown of the game, running back Micah Welch [29] scored on Oklahoma State in a one yard rush. The kick is good. 0-7 CU.

[Q1 12:00] Oklahoma recovered the kick to the 19-yard line. Players get into position. Oklahoma has a long way to travel. The ball was handed off to running back, Ollie Jr Gordon II [0]. Play was stopped by CU. 0-7 Oklahoma v. Colorado.

[Q3 15:00] CU receives the kick, touch-back puts them at their own 25-yard line. Short run resulting in only a one yard gain, followed by an incomplete pass. 3rd and 4th converted as a pass from Sanders [2] to Wester [10] for a 69-yard touchdown run. The kick is good, making the score 0-28.

[Q3 14:03] OSU returns the kick, 1st and 10 from their 17-yard line. Six yard followed by a seven yard run gives them the 1st down. The next play results in a fumble caused by defensive tackle Chidozie Nwankwo [97] gives CU the ball only 25-yards from the end zone. 0-28

[Q3 11:50] CU continue to push, 3rd and 2 at the 17-yard line. Too many men on the field results in a penalty, giving CU the 1st down in the red zone. 0-35

[Q3 10:50] Sanders [2] finds Hunter [12] in the end zone for his second receiving touchdown of the game, new score 0-35 Colorado after the good kick.

[Q3 10:50] Cowboys run the kick back to their own 20-yard line, and an offsides call on the CU offense gives them a 1st and 5 from their own 25-yard line. Five yard cary gives them the 1st down, and a 14-yard run puts them at the 48 and gaining. Passing results in a 4th and 1 for OSU, who decide to go for it. Incompletion results in a turnover on downs, CU starts at the Cowboy’s 43-yard line.

[Q3 8:23] Quick 1st down by Welch [29] followed by another run by [29] moves CU down the field quickly, 1st and 10 on the 33-yard line. Wide receiver Will Shepard [14] picks up the next 1st down with a 14 yard gain, and a 13-yard gain by hunter [12] makes it a 6 and goal. Wester [10] catches for a touchdown, but with a pass interference call, CU is put back to the 21-yard line on 1st down. A quick pass and another run by Welch [29] results in a 3rd and goal at the seven yard line. Sanders [2] Gets sacked by Garrick Martin [37], forcing a field goal attempt which Kicker Alejandro Mata [16] buries. 0-38 Colorado

[Q3 4:31] CU kicks the ball for a touchback, OSU ball at the 25-yard line. Two consecutive runs gains seven yards total, 3rd and 3 from the Cowboy’s 33-yard line. Final pass incomplete, forcing yet another punt on 4th down. 0-38

[Q3 3:00] Fair catch by Isaiah Hardge [17] at CU’s own 22-yard line. Sanders [2] with a hand-off and short pass for 12 yards, 1st down Buffaloes at the 37-yard line. Am impressive 33-yard pass to Wester [10] puts CU at the 21. A tipped pass of OSU’s [99] results in an interception by LB Jeff Roberson [22] and gives the Cowboys the ball back at the 8-yard line to end the quarter. 0-38 Colorado

End of the third quarter. 0-38. Colorado up.

[Q4 15:00] Near-funbled snap recovered for a loss of six yards, Cowboys pushed back to their own 2-yard line. Quick interception on the second pass of the play, Corner back DJ McKinney [8] intercepts the ball and runs the nine yards for a short pick-six. With a good kick giving Colorado a 45 point lead. 0-45 Colorado.

[Q4 14:25] Cowboys return the kick to their 29-yard line. First pass blocked by safety Carter Stoutmire [23] and a sack on OSU’s quarter back for a loss of six yards makes it a quick 3rd than 4th and 16, forcing yet another punt from the Cowboys. 0-45

[Q4 13:27] Short pass for a one yard gain, followed by a blocked pass makes 3rd and 9, but a 31-yard pass to Hunter [12] gives a first down and more. Now at the Cowboy’s 37-yard line, a quick first-down pass to number [10] Wester, and a 23-yard pass from Sanders [2] finds Hunter [12] in the end zone, and giving him his 3rd touchdown of the day, tying the CU football record in a single game, and the kick makes our new score 0-52 Colorado.

[Q4 11:05] Cowboys start at their own 23-yard line, two quick incompletions leave them at 3rd and 11, and force a fast punt. 0-52

[Q4 10:00] Hardge [17] returns the punt to the 50-yard line, starting CU on their own logo. 2nd and 9 with a 5-yard cary, followed by a near-sack incomplete pass leaves a 4th and 4 and forcing a punt. 0-52

[Q4 8:55] Punt taken to the Cowboy’s 9-yard line, and a quick pass makes it 2nd and 5. Corner Back De’kelvion Beamon [24] runs for 14, giving OSU the 1st down on their own 29-yard line. Beamon runs it again to secure yet another 1st down, plating OSU on Colorado’s side of the field for the 3rd time this game. Another run to the 37-yard line gives OSU yet another 1st down, as they continue to push up the field. Continuing their pressure, the Cowboys make it to the 20-yard line. 0-52

[Q4 2:00] Two minute waring; OSU pass the 1st down and make it a 1st and goal. Initial run gains 3 yards, placing them on the 5-yard line. Another run for no gain will run time out, and that is the ball game.

Travis Hunter [12] strengthened his Heisman potential with three touchdown catches putting him at 14 TDs this year. This development put him past the previous CU record holder, Nelson Spruce who had 12 touchdown catches in a single year.

Shedeur Sanders [2] threw for 438 yards to break Colorado’s single-season passing record. He finishes this season with 3,926 yards breaking the record set by Koy Detmer with 3,527 yards in 1996.

LaJohntay Wester [17] ended the game with 11 catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns. 322 career catches at Colorado and Florida Atlantic ties him for sixth on the NCAA’s career receptions list.

Being the last home football game of the season, both Shedeur and Shilo Sanders along with 19 other University of Colorado Boulder football players were honored on this senior day.
