‘35000 Watts’ film screening with IFS 9/25!

So when you think of things on the Boulder campus that are legendary, what comes to mind? I mean, in addition to Radio 1190 …

For a lot of us, the International Film Series has been a highlight of CU Boulder extracurricular life for forever, whether or not we managed to secure an actual diploma from this esteemed institution. And that’s just one of about a dozen reasons why we are totally ecstatic to be collaborating with the IFS to bring you the amazing documentary 35000 Watts: The Story of College Radio, Wednesday, Sep. 25 at Muenzinger Auditorium on campus!

Fresh off the festival circuit, 35000 Watts tells the story of college radio brought to life by the students behind the mic and the bands they made famous. It’s the story of the music culture that originated — and later flourished — on the airwaves of colleges and universities just like ours, establishing a new generational voice and a new path to success for alumni and artists.

Join us at IFS for a deep dive into the music that was the OG heart of college radio, and the symbiotic relationship between artists creating music that didn’t fit into commercial radio and the student-run stations that were more than happy to play it. It’s packed with interviews both with iconic big-name acts and smaller regional bands who lived their rock-and-roll dream for a short while, plus college radio alumni in their lives today exploring why stations like Radio 1190 are still so relevant in today’s media-saturated landscape.

We’ll have a table before and after the screening, so please come by, say hi, pick up some station swag … and share your radio stories if you’re an alum of Radio 1190 or any other college station! Can’t wait to meet you. Details and ticket information here.

Keeping the flame alive (and on the big screen),
