First Thursdays at the CU Art Museum + Mysterium Tremendum

Exploring how the worlds of visual art and auditory art collide, First Thursdays is a brand new, once-a-month collaborative event between Radio 1190 and the CU Art Museum

On September 1st, Radio 1190 kicked off the inaugural FT event by presenting a specially curated playlist to accompany the exhibition Mysterium Tremendum: collecting curiosities

The playlist was carefully crafted by inspiration from the exhibition, conversations with the artists who put the collection together, Matt Barton and Scott Johnson, and discussions within the Radio 1190 Creative Team.

Reflecting the curiously strange, captivating, and unsettling tone of Mysterium Tremendum: collecting curiosities, the two-part playlist examined the evolution of sound curiosities through human history and the simultaneously awesome and terrifying nature of “Divinity”.

The playlist featured great songs by Tom Waits, Henryk Górecki, Sigur Rós, among many others. You can see the full playlist, plus photos from the event, at the bottom of this page.

On First Thursdays, you are invited to enjoy a night of conversation, themed food, great art, and great music. Be sure to come to our next First Thursdays event on October 6th, featuring the exhibition: Ana Maria Hernando: We Have Flowers.
